Gentlemen, I stand here before you to sit behind you to tell you something I know nothing about!~ Quite seriously though, this one is a bugger, and I need help with it to make my dreams of EE come true. ee.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=1579In this, the "Unit Editor," is discussed in great detail, and using it, I hope to make some essential modifications. I understand where the files are, how to get them, and then how to change them. The issue is that the files involved are the db files, and placing them into a db folder created in the data folder, results in a prompt game crash. As such, it is useless to attempt to use this handy contraption for anything, unless someone of great wisdom can inform me to a method of successfully implementing modded db files into the game. Any who are not clear as to what I am talking about, say so, and I shall attempt to explain my problem in greater detail...... Well well well. Hello Lord High Governor, and welcome to Empire Creations!
Just a quick question: Have you decompressed the original db files before editing them in the Unit Editor? If not, you should. After which, it should function properly. I used the Unit Editor 1 and 2 to great effect in my own modification, so I don't really see a problem with it. Unless, you have Windows 8, and that bugger just messes around with everything EE related.

Yes sir, I have decompressed the files, and that is the issue, I have done everything in my power to allow for modification of the game! I can edit the files just fine, its placing them in the data/db folder that breaks everything. If you could explain more how you place the then modded files into the game, I would be much obliged, whether there is a patch or other step I am missing in this process.

Err.. well... I don't know what is the problem now, if that's the case. You did put it in a db folder inside the data folder, right? Unless you are using Windows 8, it should work.

Right, well, I solved the game crashing on start up, just that now, the game wants to crash whenever I try to change something including costs, age, or simple stats. One issue I have also noticed, is that I cannot change the individual unit stats like attack, or health. I successfully can change epochs, and what something can produce, but upon applying such changes in-game, and attempting to use the object of interest, a game-crash follows shortly thereafter. Moreover, changing the stats of a unit results in them not ever being saved in my db files, they revert to their original values.

So, in short, Stats- Revert Back to original, do not save Costs- Completely 100% changeable, working Age- can change, but effects do not take effect if moving minimum age up (like removing crossbows from Dark Age) Production- Can add units, but in-game tabs cover up changes (like tank factory replacing stables WW1), or adding cavalry to the list of things tank factories can produce results in a crash, and a mysterious Creates- Unknown listing replacing such units added to a list of create.
So, my problems seem to be as follows, 1. I want cavalry in WW1, and can provide for their production at preexisting stables, but not for building of a stable, or production of cavalry at a tank factory (due to tabs). 2. I want to change unit stats, but cannot as the editor will not save these changes to health, damage, exc...
Any ways to get over the hurdles of tabs would be much appreciated, and to change the stats on units (Trident Subs are weak and need buffs), would be much appreciated...

Aha! I think I have faced the problem you now face. You were using EE Unit 1, right? Once you have the stats you want in EE Unit 1, save that, and exit EE Unit 1. I remember experiencing changes I made via EE Unit1 reverting back to the original, since I altered another Unit's stats while changing other unit's values without saving.
In short, 1 unit to be edited, stat save, unit editor close. The process might take a while, but it's easier and much faster than individually hexing things.

no, I am using unit editor 2. Its in the objects tab that I can't change stats. When I leave the object editor, the stats revert back to original.
Is there a way to change the tab locations in the build locals? Like move the stable tab up one, and leave the tank factory where it is?

If you want to HEX the hard way maybe i can help you... but i don't really use the EEunits because of the random crashes and changes not saved, maybe someone can look at the code of the EEunits and see what HEX values they are changing? Maybe they don't change the right ones, or maybe the coding is faulty and it changes the correct ones but doesn't save... In the summer ill try to return to EE, i haven't had the time but latelly i've been in the mood for it

Sounds like fun matie, Id be down for some hexing, just have never had anyone give me instructions, or found any that is. I just really want stables for cavalry in WW1, heh, and I will do anything I can to accomplish it!

Triggers and good stuff will be implemented (or may have even been committed already) in 0 AD's powerful Atlas editor, so if you want to branch out and expand horizons so to speak, we'd be happy to have you at last!

Yes the button locations, pray tell.... BTW.... My friends PC is having issues running EE. The issue with the graphics is with the text flickering, and the mouse leaving trails of itself in the game. If we tinker with the settings however, we lose text, and the model's in-game do not, exist, looking like minecraft in windows 95. Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40 GHz 2.40 GHz Installed RAM: 16.0 GB (15.9 usable) Version: Windows 7 Home Premium service Pack 1 Graphic Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 (Nvidea 660 Geforce) Make and Model: Alienware M14x Laptop Personally, I think its that his computer's graphics card was botched during the installation of a new hard-drive, as in the Empire Earth settings it is impossible to select the nvidea card, and can only use the Intel HD 4000. So, I will recommend to Lord Ficrab that we re install his Nvidea completely, unless you have any idea what in God's name is wrong. A, then, the button locations: It is a good dedicated friend who gave me this, Boost123. Those are the button locations reference. In order for a certain button to be changed, you need to know about hexing. I can do it for you, if you want. Just give me your decompressed db files and list me the things you want changed. Ramadan is just around the corner and I might fire up my old laptop to play EE. Windows 8 sucks for EE! As to the graphics card, yes, maybe that's the reason. I have NVIDIA graphics cards too in a powerful rig at home. Can't play EE using that one.

Umm, sorry to bump an old topic, but Shieldwolf, I think you have trouble remembering my name. First the interview for the greek EE website, and now here. Question, when hexing, is it possible to change the buildings a unit can create, so for example, If I wanted to add in the naval mine as a build able structure to a ship class. Moreover, can I change what units are able to target, as the naval mine in game is always destroyed by enemy ships, and I was thinking if only a certain class of ship could target them, or only the sea king choppers, they would have a far greater effect. Gov'nor We've actually tried a lot of things to make the naval mine buildable, but no, it can't be built. Some of the Hexers over in EEH have a theory that there's a graphic loading issue in the mine. All buildings which doesn't have attack can in theory build a unit, although they don't have the rally point ability.

Question, been awhile and all that I know. My friend is trying to play the game and it is crashing very easy and promptly after start up. He is using the NeoEE version of the Expansion, we have tried changing the graphics but no go. Any suggestions?

If your friend is using a graphics card which is not older than 2012, then I'm afraid nothing we can do about it. The community have searched far and wide to have this fixed, but OS change and other tricks doesn't do much. It's how latest graphics cards handle old games - they don't support it anymore.
