A very talented and dedicated EE fan has created an excellent tool in making all our dreams come true, via the EE DB editor. All those times we've been searching for the easiest way of editing stats via hexing, all those times we wished for new units and new techs, all of those you can do via this great tool! It's continually being updated, so there are more things to come. For now, try it for yourself! ee.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/forums/display.cgi?action=st&fn=3&tn=38362&st=recent&f=3,38362,0,10

I believe so, yes. Forlins made a post about it, with technical details on how to do it. But only using the existing CEMs, I think, to represent these new units. And yes, Tal, at last!

I am rather wondering if we can add units in a way that they can have different textures. Ie have 5 different elite guards

I think we can, something like prolonging the number of objects the code have. It's better we ask the details thru Forlins.

Forlins answered, and it should be easy:
(Assuming you're using the DB Editor): First go to dbgraphics.dat and duplicate the graphic you need, with right-click -> duplicate on the entry. In this case you need 5 more elite guards graphics. Set the new texture to each one of them. Save, close the window.
Now: if there are more objects with the same name, the scenario editor will only show one (this explains why there are digital's and space's AA Missile Towers, but the scenario editor only show the first one). So, you need to create 5 new strings in language.dat (examples: "Spanish elite guard", "Turkish elite guard", ...).
Now you have 2 options: - Use the same dbbutton for all elite guards: if you put more elite guards in a human player's tech tree, he can only use one of them, as there's only a button for them all (the CPU is still able to use them all, as it doesn't use the GUI buttons). - Create a dbbutton for each elite guard (in different positions, obviously): human player can build all variants at once.
Finally, you only need to follo the instructions in my HEX Editing Guide
